Stillness, spaciousness, intention and listening form part of the language of craniosacral therapy. Hugh Milne in his book, “The Listening Heart” describes this silent language as a form of communication that existed before verbal language. In the visual arts there is also an unspoken language. Something either engages you or it does not. One cannot say what it is that reaches you; why one image works and another does not. Technique is important but not the most important element. It is the same with therapy. What facilitates the shifts that heal someone can only be understood in the stillness and again there is no verbal language to describe it.

Working with emptiness, listening, dialoguing with stillness; these are some of my experiences as a craniosacral therapist. In these series of drawings I endeavour to create an awareness of the space that the practitioner holds during a therapy session. Many artists have achieved stillness in their work. To my knowledge however no one has yet tried to describe the processes and qualities of the stillness in therapy. I do not believe that I will be able to portray the full scope of the therapy process in a single exhibition; however I have had to begin somewhere.
